Mason

Job Description

A Mason is someone with great hand dexterity and an eye for detail. The ideal candidate will also have a thorough knowledge of  bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other various construction materials used for commercial construction projects. 

Job Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Build walls, fences, walkways, roads, and other structures using bricks, stone, concrete blocks, or marble.
  • Carves out and builds structures and surfaces with bricks or concrete blocks.
  • Places brick or concrete blocks on mortar bed.
  • Cuts or saws bricks to fit around windows and doors.
  • Measures distances to lay out work.
  • Mixes mortar and grout to be used to lay brick.
  • Spreads mortar onto brick or block surface with a trowel.
  • Examines brickwork to ensure structure is built correctly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Mason Qualifications/ Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of bricklaying techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings and guidelines
  • Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety.
  • Good physical condition and endurance.

Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is an asset
  • Four years of experience in commercial or residential masonry.
  • Strong working knowledge of job site safety as well as ability to complete a company specific safety orientation.
  • Successful completion of mason apprenticeship program preferred but not required.
